The Chiefs have signed running back Thomas Jones to a two-year, $5 million deal.
Jones was released by the Jets last week before he was due a $3 million roster bonus. He was slated to make $2.8 million in salary next season, and the Jets wanted him to take a pay cut, but an agreement to restructure his contract could not be reached, according to the report.
Seattle Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley said he felt like a prisoner in his own home when he played for the Chicago Cubs last year, and that he feared for the well-being of people around him.
“It was pretty bad,” Bradley said during an interview with ESPN’s Colleen Dominguez. “I would have rather tore my knee up and gone through rehab all over again then have to deal with that.”
The Cubs signed Bradley to a three-year, $30 million contract on Jan. 5, 2009. He struggled on the field, hitting .257 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. Off the field, his relationship with the Cubs became so unmanageable that general manager Jim Hendry suspended Bradley on Sept. 20 for the remainder of the season for conduct detrimental to the organization.
The 48-year-old defenseman, a three-time Norris Trophy winner, has been called up by the , general manager Don Waddell told ESPN.com Wednesday.
Chelios had 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) in 46 games with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves this season. He signed an NHL deal with the Thrashers on March 2. The Wolves are Atlanta’s primary AHL affiliate.
Longtime shortstop retired from baseball on Wednesday morning, signing a one-day contract with the Red Sox in order to retire as a member of the team.
