Easy knitting ideas for beginners

When people first start out with knitting, they want something easy but also meaningful. Nobody is going to feel very inspired with a wonky square of different stitches! So, what are some of the simplest projects to begin with that are also fast and fun?

Ideally, a project that doesn’t involve complex stitches or shaping is the best to start with. Initially, the focus should be on practising getting the tension right and creating even stitches. A good way to do this is with a simple scarf using a thick yarn and a garter stitch. It provides a great goal – a first wearable item but the chunky yarn will disguise any inconsistencies in the stitchwork.

A potholder or dishcloth is another very straightforward project that basically just involves little squares. Using a cheap yarn is recommended as these are a great way to practise new stitches on. They are quick to make and you can play around with them without worrying about wasting material. If you’re looking for a Knitting Starter Kit, visit stitch and story knitting kits

If you want to make something useful for winter, then fingerless gloves or wrist warmers are an ideal first project. They don’t involve complex fingers as they are basically just a tube. They can even be knitted as two flat pieces and joined together using a basic mattress stitch. These are a great choice for beginners who still want a useful wearable.

A coaster is another simple project idea that provides you with something unique for your decor. Square ones are the easiest to start with but as you gain more practice, you can move on to making round ones.
